Ingredients:

For Kadhi:

  • Curd – 1 cup (slightly sour)
  • Gram Flour – 3 tbsp
  • Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Water – 3-4 cups
  • Asafoetida – 1 pinch
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 6–8
  • Dried red chillies – 1–2
  • Oil – 2 tbsp

For pakodas:

  • Gram flour – 1 cup
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped, optional)
  • Celery – 1/4 tsp
  • Green chilli – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Water – as per need
  • Oil – for frying

For rice:

  • Basmati rice – 1 cup
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Salt – as per taste

Step 1: Prepare pakodas

  • In a bowl, add gram flour, onion, green chilli, celery, salt and water and prepare the batter.
  • Fry small pakodas in hot oil till they turn golden and take them out on tissue paper.

Step 2: Make the curry

  • Beat curd and gram flour well in a vessel so that there are no lumps. Add turmeric, salt, red chilli and 3 cups of water to it.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add a tempering of asafoetida, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves and dried red chillies.
  • Now add the gram flour-curd mixture and let it boil while stirring continuously.
  • Then cook on low flame for 20–25 minutes so that the curry thickens.

Step 3: Add pakodas

  • When the curry is cooked, add the fried pakodas to it and cook for 5 minutes.
  • If you want to add tempering on top, you can do it separately.

Step 4: Make rice

  • Wash the rice and cook it with 2 cups of water and a little salt in a pressure cooker for 1 whistle or boil it in a pot.
  • Serve the rice with the curry when it is ready.
