Ingredients:

Main Ingredients:

  • Semolina (Rava) – 1 cup
  • Boiled sweet corn – 1 cup (coarsely ground)
  • Water – 2.5 cups
  • Oil / Ghee – 2 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste

For tempering:

  • Mustard seeds (Rai) – 1/2 tsp
  • Chana dal – 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Green chilli – 1 finely chopped
  • Ginger – 1 tsp (grated)
  • Curry leaves – 7–8 leaves
  • Asafoetida – 1 pinch
  • Onion – 1 finely chopped (optional)
  • For garnishing (optional):
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp (chopped)

Step 1: Prepare semolina and corn

  • Roast the semolina in a pan on low flame for 3–4 minutes till a light aroma comes. Remove and keep aside.
  • Grind the corn coarsely (keep it a little coarse, do not make a paste).

Step 2: Tadka (tempering)

  • Heat oil in the same pan.
  • Add mustard seeds, then add chana dal, urad dal, asafoetida and brown it lightly.
  • Now add ginger, green chillies, onions and curry leaves. Saute till onions turn light golden.

Step 3: Add corn and water

  • Now add crushed corn and saute for 2 minutes.
  • After this add 2.5 cups of hot water and salt. Bring to a boil.

Step 4: Add semolina

  • Slowly add semolina to the boiling water and keep stirring continuously so that lumps do not form.
  • Slow the flame and cook covered for 3–5 minutes.
  • Turn off the gas, add lemon juice and coriander leaves.
