- Chana Dal – 1/2 Cup (Soaked for 30 mins)
- Tomato – 2 (Grated or Finely Chopped)
- Green Chillies – 1 (Finely Chopped)
- Ginger – 1 Small Piece (Grated)
- Asafoetida – 1 Pinch
- Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Garam masala – 1/4 tsp
- Salt – as per taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Coriander leaves – for garnishing

Step 1: Cooking Chana Dal
- Soak the chana dal for 30 minutes first.
- Add a little salt to the dal along with 1 cup of water in a cooker and cook till 2 whistles.
- Remove the pressure and keep aside.
Step 2: Preparation of pumpkin and spices
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida.
- Then add green chillies and ginger and fry lightly.
- Now add tomatoes and spices (turmeric, chilli, coriander powder) and fry for 2–3 minutes until oil separates.
Step 3: Cooking Pumpkin
- Now add chopped pumpkin, mix well and cover and cook for 10–12 minutes until pumpkin becomes soft.
- Keep stirring in between.
Step 4: Mixing Bengal Gram
- Now add cooked Bengal Gram and some water.
- Add salt and garam masala and mix and cook on low flame for 5–7 minutes.
Step 5: Serving
- Garnish with green coriander and serve with hot roti or paratha.
